Diego continues at school with me

We have now been several months without any additional training for Diego. He seems to know everything he needs to know regarding service dog-type behaviors. He is still distinguishing between his behaviors when he has his vest on and when he does not. That has been very challenging at school where EVERYONE wants to visit with him and he is more than happy to oblige. He has the hardest time ignoring those around him. He has become so popular with the staff that he feels he should visit with them every time he hears their voices in the same room. I find it very hard to scold him in front of them because he is very sweet and I realize that my co-workers really do just want to visit. He has become a bit of a therapy dog at work. I have actually reduced the amount of time he comes to school with me to about 2 days per week instead of 5. Consider having a very sweet and very social child follow you everywhere you go, all day long. Fortunately, he attracts several smiles, but he also turns a 2 minute run to the copy machine into a 10 minute educational conversation about who he is and what he does. So, in order to still maintain sanity and productiveness at my job, he needs to stay behind more often than not. I am not really worried about his training falling apart since he seems to have most of it down. Funny enough, he is the biggest rascal at school. I think I have come up with a decent system though. He gets his traditional potty breaks when I have an extended gap in my schedule, but after lunch, we head outside and toss the tennis ball for about 15 passes. He really looks forward to that. So, overall I am much less frustrated and stressed with only bringing Diego those two days. I think I will continue that for a while.
