There have been some really uplifting stories to share lately. Today, my young apprentice, Brooks, who has been learning many tricks of the service dog trade, helped me out tremendously. Twice now, he has taken Diego out for play/fetch time during my lunch duty and has very successfully expelled large amounts of energy from him. He is very responsible with Diego and continues to help me in various ways everyday. He can't seems to get enough of our sweet pup. Diego will only respond positively to students "visits" toward him and one other girl who happens to babysit for me. Most of the other children frighten him when they try to pet him. Usually, they are coming in swarms and mobs, so that is very intimidating for Diego. One or two kids at a time seems to be fine, but more than 3 and he is a giant coward. Brooks seems to be a very bright spot in his day. Brooks takes him out for potty breaks and tosses the ball around each time, so Diego is very happy to see/smell him enter the room. Even when he hears his voice, Diego perks up. So sweet. Here is a picture of the two of them.
